Image Adjustments Tool
The Image Adjustment Tool (Ctrl+U) allows following modifications
of the current image (or selected images):
- Image Levels
Click anywhere on the histogram to modify lowest and/or highest intensity level. One can lighten up underexposed
images easily. Similarly changing gamma parameter modifies tone compensation (contrast).
Image levels may also be used to remove color casts. Selecting single channel, like red, green or blue and
adjusting it changes intensity of this primary color.
- Brightness/Contrast
Rudimentary brightness and contrast control to quickly modify image appearance.
- Color Balance
Color balance allows color shifts to correct imperfections in white balance setting. If photograph has a color
cast due to the incorrect WB it may be rescued by manually tweaking colors.
- Image Crop
To trim image down to the desired size one can draw a rectangle, resize and position it over the original image.
Proportions of this rectangle can be constrained to the selected size. This feature works by making sure width to height ratio corresponds to the selected size. For instance selecting 4" by 6" size constraints ensures that cropped image will have ideal proportions for a 4" by 6" print.
An important feature supported by Image Crop is ‘JPEG lossless cropping’. When selected trim rectangle is automatically limited (has to be aligned to 8 by 8 pixels grid), but trimmed image will NOT be transcoded. That means that exactly the same level of details as in original image will be preserved and no additional distortions will be introduced while saving resulting image.
Note: this mode works with JPEG files only and cannot be combined with any other corrections.
To open the Image Adjustment Tool click on the desired photograph in the images pane window
and then select Image Adjustment Tool from the menu or tool pane.
Once modified, image can be saved under the new name. Saving options can by modified by clicking on the
‘Show Options’ button. Available options include JPEG compression level and proposed file name suffix.
In addition to them resulting image histogram is also presented.
Multiple Images
Adjustment tool has an ability to apply the same changes to the range of images. Selecting multiple images prior to invoking this tool will start it in the batch mode, where several images will be adjusted. This feature may be useful when several images require same kind of correction (like color cast removal, or brightness fix).
